What are boxing gloves like and how should you take care of them?

Posted on September 3, 2021 by Steve Howard

Hundreds of boys and dozens of girls join a boxing class every year. For regular boxing practice, a person needs to buy some equipment, namely a mouth guard and boxing gloves.

To produce boxing gloves, manufacturers of sports equipment use natural leather or its high quality substitute. The inside of boxing gloves is made of polyurethane or horsehair. The gloves made for boxing enthusiasts may have different weights, which are measured in English ounces. The weight of gloves for the youngest boxers is only four ounces, while their counterparts for heavyweight athletes can weigh up to twenty-two ounces.

Boxing gloves are manufactured with laces or Velcro that secure them to athletes’ wrists. Such products are divided into two types: training and shooting gloves. The leather training gloves are used to work in pairs, while the projectile gloves are used to practice punches on punching bags and punching bags. Although the training gloves are not popular because the training gloves are more versatile.

To make the boxing gloves last longer for their owner, it is useful to follow some recommendations. Namely, before putting the gloves on, wrap your hands with bandages. They will absorb sweat, and therefore the gloves themselves will be less soaked in sweat. After training, wipe the gloves with a wet cloth and then dry them (at least with a hair dryer). Washing the gloves should be avoided as they gradually lose their useful properties. It is not advisable not to take care of boxing gloves at all – as, soaked in the wearer’s sweat, they will give off a not very pleasant smell.
